This post is sponsored by the BlogPaws® Pet Influencer Network™. I am being compensated as a BlogPaws Conference Ambassador to help share information about the BlogPaws 2018 Conference but we only share information we feel is relevant to our readers. BlogPaws is not responsible for the content of this article.
Several years ago I started Sarcastic Dog with no real focus or direction. “It’ll be fun”, I told myself. “It’ll be easy” I foolishly thought. HA! After a few months, I had put up a couple of posts but nothing was happening. I was tweeting the links to my posts. I was throwing a picture up on Instagram here and there but I really had no plan, no niche, no organization behind what I was doing with the blog and, most importantly, I had no traffic. So I pretty much abandoned the blog for almost two years.
In the late summer of 2015, I got together with a fellow animal welfare advocate and all-around amazing human being, Lara Elizabeth from Rubicon Days, who told me about this thing called BlogPaws, a network for bloggers who want to learn about and understand blogging and how to become an influencer. I had no idea what an “influencer” was nor did I have any real understanding of what was involved in building an audience, honing in on my blogging niche or that there was an annual conference specifically for pet bloggers. WHAT?!?!
Over the next several months, I started engaging on the BlogPaws Social Learning pages, the BlogPaws Facebook pages and began to explore the world of pet blogging in earnest. I tried to implement everything I was learning and started to achieve small milestones (like hitting 500 followers on Twitter and getting the first comment on one of my posts that wasn’t from my mother.) I decided to attend the 2016 BlogPaws conference in Arizona.
The Power of Community
Fast forward to June of 2016. I had been invited on a special influencers tour of the PetsMart headquarters the day before the conference started and that moment kicked off a life-changing series of events that I could not have predicted. For some reason the stars aligned and I was gifted a group of women who would become a core part of my community – a part of my family.
Following the conference, we started meeting via video conference every other week to help one another stay on track, work through writer’s block, and to set and achieve goals. I am convinced that this amazing group of women helped me achieve my goal of presenting at BlogPaws last year and for my blog being nominated for a 2017 Nose-to-Nose Best Cause Blog Award.
Contrary to the rumors, I did not move to Kansas City just because the 2018 BlogPaws conference was scheduled to be here. 😉 It gloriously worked out that the conference is here in April and I am thrilled to share that I have been asked to serve as the Local & Zero Waste Ambassador for this year’s conference! I will share more about my Ambassador duties as we get closer to the conference but, in the meantime, please meet my fellow ambassadors who are each amazing pet bloggers and influencers.

I will be sharing more about this pet-friendly city in an upcoming post but I highly recommend that you build a few extra days into your travel plans so you can explore all the fountains (There are 200!), test all the BBQ (we’re famous for it), check out the Plaza (AMAZING shopping and an architectural beauty) and our many world-renowned museums. In my role as Zero Waste Ambassador, I will be encouraging everyone to recycle, reuse, and leave as little trace behind as possible.
