Homemade dog treats with BACON! What could be better? Simon and Zora loved these treats. I used turkey bacon reduce the fat and substituted brown rice flour for additional protein. Needless, to say, treats are still treats so make sure you save the good treats for training and good behavior rewards and in moderation.

  1. 6-7 pieces of turkey bacon cooked, cooled and crumbled
  2. 1 small banana or 1/2 of a large banana
  3. 1 egg, lightly beaten
  4. 1-2 carrots shredded
  5. 1 TBS honey
  6. 1/2 C creamy peanut butter
  7. 1.5-2 C whole wheat flour
  8. 1-1.5 C brown rice flour
  9. 1/4 C ground flax
  10. 1/4 C wheat bran
  11. 2 tsp baking powder
  1. Preheat oven to 350° F
  2. In a large bowl, mix together the flours, ground flax, wheat bran, and baking powder. Set Aside
  3. In a microwave safe bowl, warm the peanut butter. Approximately 30 seconds.
  4. In a medium bowl, mash the banana and add the lightly beaten the egg, shredded carrots, & honey
  5. Then pour in the peanut butter and water. Use a fork to whisk together the wet ingredients until completely combined. Then add the cooled and crumbled bacon
  6. Make a well in the dry ingredients, and pour in the banana peanut butter mixture.
  7. Stir until combined.
  8. Knead lightly in the bowl with your hands. You may need extra flour to bring it together.
  9. Flour a large cutting board or marble rolling slab. Again, you can add a little more flour if the dough is too sticky. (Of course, you can add a little water if the dough is too dry)
  10. Roll out to 1/2 inch thickness.
  11. Line cookie sheets with parchment paper
  12. Cut shapes out of the dough and place on your prepared baking sheet. Gather the extra dough, knead into a ball, and repeat the process of rolling and cutting until there is no more dough.
  13. Bake for 20-25 minutes.
  14. Turn off the oven and leave them there to cool for 2 hours or overnight.
  1. Storing - These homemade dog biscuits will stay fresh in the refrigerator for up to two weeks. They will keep in the freezer for up to 6 months.
