Sardine & Sweet Potato Pup Cakes

Delicious cake-like dog treats made with sardines, sweet potato and garbanzo flour

  • 2.5 cups garbanzo bean flour
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup skinned, mashed sweet potato
  • 1 can unsalted sardines in water plus liquid
  • 1/2-3/4 cup filtered water
  • 2 tsp coconut oil for greasing pan or molds


  1. Preheat oven to 350

  2. Mix garbanzo bean flour and cinnamon

  3. Add mashed sweet potato

  4. Use spoon to chop sardines in their liquid and add to mix

  5. Stir ingredients and slowly add water (1/2 cup for thicker texture up to 3/4 cup for thinner batter

  6. Press batter into molds

  7. Bake for 20 minutes

  8. Allow to cool for 10-15 minutes before serving

Recipe Notes

Refrigerate leftovers up to three days or freeze up to two months

If using canned sardines, make sure they are packed in water with no added salt and check the sodium content.
